An example of Neo-classical sculpture with the figure draped in a toga across shoulders and chest. George Griswold III is portrayed as a middle-aged man. George Griswold and his brother Nathanial left Lyme for New York in 1794 where they created a very successful import/export & shipping business. They were well-known for their trade in China tea. The company was known as N.L. & G. G. Griswold. Their competitors dubbed them No Loss and Great Gain Griswold because they were so successful.
